Whale watching in Maui

Each winter thousands of humpbacks travel from Alaska to Hawaii to give birth and to breed, with 80% of them spending their time in Maui. The result is one of the best spots on the planet for whale watching. The peak time to see the whales is in February/March, as that's when the majority of whales have arrived. Julie and I visited Maui in late February-early March just to see the whales. I've always loved whale watching. It's incredible to see a 40 ton creature that spends 90% of its life under the water. Julie and I have gone whale watching all over the world. We've seen humpbacks, blue whales, minke whales, sperm whales and fin whales. On most whale watching trips you'll usually see nothing more than a whale spouting, get a view of its back and then watch its fluke appear as it dives down. If you're lucky you may see them splashing their tails around or even a breach. The special thing about visiting Maui at this time of year is that the humpbacks are extremely active.
